New Gear: Sony NEX-5R

So I was saving for a Sony NEX-7 for awhile but I found an open box NEX-5R at Best Buy for half price and I just had to get it. I have been looking at the NEX series ever since Trey Ratcliff at Stuck in Customs switched from Nikon to the NEX-7. I am excited to take my camera out to more places and more often since this camera is so small but takes DSLR quality photos. It has a remote camera app where I can change settings and get a live view on my android phone. It can also send the full sized photos to my phone for easy sharing. I have recently switched to using Google+ for my photo sharing and using a service called Friends+Me that takes that post and pushes it to my facebook, twitter, tumblr, and linkedin. I then post a cropped square version to my instagram which then shares to my flickr. I also post right here to my blog. So I post my photos 3 times and it goes out to 8 places. If you have a better way to do this, let me know. The last couple photos I have posted are from this new camera, shared to my phone, edited in snapseed and then sent out to google+, instagram and my blog as mentioned before. I hope you enjoy the extra quality and I hope to start doing some cool videos whenever I get AfterEffects and Premiere.

Appleberry Orchard

I went to Appleberry Farm in Marshalltown, Iowa yesterday and took a bunch of photos on my phone. I edited them in snapseed on the road trip back and got some pretty good shots.

Henry Doorly Zoo

Henry Doorly Zoo

I went to the Henry Doorly Zoo with my family on Sunday and took a couple photos. All were taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with Photojojo telephoto lens and edited with Snapseed.

Hickory Hills Organic Farm

Last weekend I toured Hickory Hills Organic Farm with my Des Moines Paleo group. We saw all the animals and then got to buy straight from the source. The chickens, hogs and cows are treated very humanely. They are actually ranked between category 4 and 5 on the USDA's humane scale You can talk to Ben at the Des Moines Farmer's Market.  The roasts are perfect and the brats are the best I have ever had.

Valentine's Day

IMG_20130214_172124.jpg

This is my Valentine's Day "card" for my wife. I made this from one of our wedding photos that I had on my phone. My wife loves Edgar Allen Poe, so I customized one of his poems at the end there with her name. I added the text using the Phonto app on my Galaxy Note II and then edited it in PicSayPro and Instagram.

But our love was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many far wiser than we
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Alyssa B.

Save the Date!

I designed the save the dates for my wedding. I just gave my camera to Alyssa's mom with the right settings at a local park. Our colors are black, red and white so this was pretty easy. We bought 100 4x6s at Walgreens for 15 cents.
